FUNDS Replacement Funds
Some of the funds we recommend in the Kiplinger 25 have shut their doors to new investors. But here are some terrific alternatives and the research you'll need to compare your fund options. Want more alternatives, click the Fund Finder style search below each fund link. Vanguard Primecap Core (VPCCX) is run by the same team who manages the closed Primecap and Capital Opportunity funds. It invests in companies of all sizes, requires a $10,000 minimum investment and has an expense ratio of 0.75%.
Julius Baer International Equity (BJBIX) has a mix of undervalued stocks and stocks of companies expected to grow rapidly. It has returned an annualized 13% over the past ten years.
American AAdvantage Small Cap Value (AVPAX) invests in underpriced small companies. The fund is run by stock pickers from several firms and returend an annualized 21% over the past five years.
T. Rowe Price Spectrum Growth (PRSGX) invests in ten other Price funds that concentrate on stocks of large, growing companies. It returned an annualized 11% over the past ten years.
Oakmark Fund (OAKMX) invests in companies associated with growth investing. And the managers buy only stocks selling at steep discounts to the true worth of the company. It returend an annualized 9% over the past five years.
Oakmark Select (OAKLX) owns just 20 stocks of primarily mid-size companies and has 16% of its assets in Washington Mutual. Over the past five years, it returned an annualized 15%. |
